THE COMMON SOLDIER AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS 1940 – 1945 / Old Ordnance Room/ Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4 p.m. Guided tours can be booked in advance by calling 314 544-6224. Closes Nov. 22, 2009. See what your WW II hero saw when he got to the Induction Station and Basic Training. Displays depict barracks life, training, equipment, recreation and much more for the men and women that trained and served at the largest military post in the Midwest. Hundreds of pictures of the personnel and Jefferson Barracks bring back old memories or show the visitor who and what life at the post was like. Many of the men are not identified so come in and see if you know them and let us know who they are.

LIVING HISTORY HAYRIDES AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS / Enjoy a hayride through historic Jefferson Barracks with re-enactor vignettes throughout the park. The re-enactors will explain their time period and explain their uniforms and equipment during stops at each vignette. WALKING TOURS OF JEFFERSON BARRACKS / Put on your hiking shoes and take a guided tour of Jefferson Barracks Historic park. This up close and personal look at this old Army Post requires walking through diverse terrain for about 2 _ miles. MULTI -SITE MILITARY BUS TOUR / Take a tour and visit many of St. Louis County’s important military historic sites. The day will include guided tours of Fort Belle Fontaine, the General Daniel Bissell House, Frederick Bates’ Thornhill, Ulysses S. Grant’s White Haven, and Jefferson Barracks. The day will be capped off with a dinner served by costumed interpreters at the Jefferson Barracks Visitor’s Center. A boxed lunch will also be served at the General Daniel Bissell House after the guided tour of the house. Space is limited. MODEL TRAINS AND MILITARY TOYS / Visitors Center/ See operating HO and O gauge model trains and many toys that will bring back old memories or create new memories for kids of all ages. Troops trains, passenger trains and freight trains will run through cities and countryside settings. Military toys, dolls and games will also be on display. Nov. 27, 2009 through Jan. 3, 2010. Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY DINNER / Enjoy a festive period holiday meal in the Old Ordnance Room served by costumed interpreters. This years theme is the military through time which will feature servers dressed in outfits from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, and World War II. The meal is a 5-course meal of appetizers, soup, salad, entree, and desert. A short program explaining the servers outfits will follow desert. Dec. 5, 2009 6 p.m. Cost: $50 per person

U.S. MILITARY ORGANIZATIONS / Old Ordnance Room/ Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4 p.m.This exhibit explains the origins and history of the many veterans organizations, such as The Grand Army of the Republic, United Spanish War Veterans, AmVets, and American Legion and many more that you may not have even known, that formed after U.S. involvement in the different wars. Displays and pictures will show the history and uniforms worn by the members of these organizations. Feb. 3, 2010 through May 30, 2010.
